Fred Norton, age 86, passed away on June 5, 2026 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born on January 9, 1940 in Joliet, Illinois, son of the late Fred C. Norton and Lila E. (Owens) Norton. Fred was a communicant of the former Assumption Parish. He served in the US AirForce and Airforce Reserve. He later worked as a diesel mechanic and after retirement, he continued working at United Truck Driving School as a mechanic. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 452 in Chicopee and was a proud Retired Senior Volunteer for the Chicopee Auxiliary Police. Fred also enjoyed metal detecting, fishing, and puttering in his garage during his spare time. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lorraine (Bergeron) Norton of Chicopee; one son, Paul C. Norton and his wife Linda of Springfield, two daughters, Lisa Giblo and her husband Jody of FL, and Mary Beth Berrien and her husband Kevin of Westfield; one sister, Lila E. Russ of Illinois; seven grandchildren, Meghan, Milo, Alex, Crystal, Aaron, Morgan and Calleigh and three great grandchildren, Adriana, Matteo and Marcel. He is predeceased by his son who passed away at birth in 1975, Michael D. Norton and also by his grandson, Michael (Mikey) Norton who passed away in 2026. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee.
