CHICOPEE - Lorraine I. (Roy) Babij, 76, of Chicopee and a former longtime resident of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, June 6, 2026. She passed into Eternal Life at Vantage Health at Hampden surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on April 15, 1950, a beloved daughter of the late Delphis J. and Laura M. A. (Chretien) Roy. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the former Sacred Heart High School in Springfield and had moved to Chicopee in the late 1970’s. She furthered her education and received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Holyoke Community College. She was employed as a prep cook at the former Friendly’s Ice Cream on East Street in Chicopee. She previously worked as a clerk at the former Diamond Match Company in Springfield and a secretary at the former Epstein Furniture in Holyoke. She was a communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and the former Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee. She was a former active longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Springfield. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George R. Babij who was Called Home on January 22, 2002. They were married on June 4, 1977 and were blessed with over 24 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving brothers, Paul H. Roy and his wife, Donna, of Newington, CT and Richard D. Roy and his wife, Sandra, of Westfield; and her many cherished nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving brother, Leo W. Roy and his wife, Blanche; and her three loving sisters, Alice Wren and her husband, William, Claire D. Orefice and her husband, Joseph, and Helene T. Bernard and her husband, Allen. Her Funeral will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 10 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Fairview Cemetery, Abbey Memorial Drive, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 12, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to her Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
