Obituary

Douglas J. Randall, Sr., 61, of Johnston, passed away on June 1, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the beloved husband of Cheryl M. Randall.

Born in Warwick, he was the son of the Gary A. (Emma) Randall of Plainfield, CT and Marcia I. (Irons) Randall of Providence.

Doug was a proud graduate of Scituate High School, Class of 1983. Following graduation, he began his career as a Union Journeyman Carpenter with Local 94, where he worked from 1983 to 1989. His dedication to serving others led him to become a volunteer firefighter with the Chopmist Hill Volunteer Fire Department from 1980 to 1985. He later served in the call/volunteer system in Centerdale in North Providence before joining the North Providence Fire Department.

Doug proudly served the residents of North Providence as a firefighter from August 1989 until his retirement in July 2010. During his distinguished career, he was a member of the department's Color Guard and an active member of the Rhode Island Professional Firefighters Pipes and Drums Band, where he played tenor drum for 11 years. He took great pride in participating in fundraisers, memorial services, parades, honoring fallen firefighters, and Honor Flights recognizing our nation's veterans.

Doug was a man who embraced life and treasured time spent with family and friends. He loved traveling to the Caribbean, taking annual summer trips to Block Island, cheering on the Boston Bruins and New England Patriots, and following NASCAR, especially his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. A skilled craftsman, he enjoyed remodeling projects and carpentry work. He could often be found walking his beloved dog, Mia, relaxing on a beach, or discovering new restaurants and pubs. Above all, Doug cherished every moment spent with his granddaughter, Rory Claire, affectionately known as "Sweet Pea," and delighted in holding and spoiling her whenever he could.

Doug will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and positive spirit. He was always willing to lend a hand, made friends wherever he went, and touched countless lives with his honesty, warmth, and ever-present smile.

Besides his wife, Cheryl, he leaves his loving children, Douglas J. (Lauren) Randall Jr. of Cranston, Jacob D. Randall of Exeter, and Sarah E. (Joe) Randall of Wakefield; his cherished granddaughter, Rory Claire Randall; his brothers, David (Christine) Randall of Dayville, Connecticut, and Dean (Jean) Randall of Scituate; as well as many extended family members and dear friends. He was predeceased by his twin brother, the late Donald Randall.

His family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy of service, friendship, and love will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday June 10th at 10am in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial will be in Highland Park, Johnston. Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 9th from 4pm to 7pm.
