Obituary

DUDLEY – Matthew J. Grossi, Jr., 78, died Monday, June 1, 2026 in UMass/Memorial University Campus with family at his side.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Jane P. (Marks) Grossi, who was also his high school sweetheart; a daughter, Dawn M. Grossi of Dudley; and many nephews and nieces. He also leaves a godchild, Gary Conforth, Jr. and his wife Karen of New Jersey as well as two people who were like brothers to him, his cousin Gary Conforth, Sr. and his wife Joan and Larry Wetzel and his wife Robin, all of New Jersey.

He was born on October 15, 1947 in Patterson, NJ and raised in Totowa, NJ, the only child of Matthew J. Grossi, Sr. and Jennie (D’Angelo) Grossi. He graduated from Passaic Valley High School in 1965 and earned a Bachelor of Business Degree from Monmouth College in 1969.

Mr. Grossi was the director of distribution for Imperial Distribution in Auburn. He then opened the first Staples Distribution Center in Auburn and later helped design the one in Putnam, CT. He retired as a distributor for Whole Foods in Farmington, CT.

He was a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Church. He enjoyed woodworking, bird watching and completing daily USA crossword puzzles. He was a member of the Nichols College Golf Club for many years. He and his friends from New Jersey were devout Cleveland Brown fans all their lives.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 11, from the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Webster. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 AM Thursday morning in the funeral home, prior to the Mass.
