Michael P. Higgins, 68, of Woburn, unexpectedly passed away on May 30, 2026, while visiting California. Michael was born in Winchester and was the son of the late Honorable Mayor Thomas M. Higgins and Margaret M. (Connors) Higgins.
Michael grew up in Woburn with his family next to the White Elementary School and enjoyed all his time with friends and family in the Hilltop neighborhood. Those early years in Hilltop gave him a deep sense of community and lifelong friendships he always treasured.
Above all, Michael was passionate about helping people unconditionally. For over 30 years, he served as a Probation Officer at the Woburn District Court. This inspired him to co-develop HEAT (Heroin Education Awareness Task Force), a revolutionary community initiative designed to combat the opioid and heroin epidemic by educating parents and youth, while actively connecting struggling individuals with voluntary treatment. After his retirement from the court, he continued to help by serving as the Substance Abuse Coordinator in Billerica, MA, where he continued to grow his legacy as a trusted voice in the community.
Michael enjoyed spending time in Hampton Beach, NH, and was a proud member of the Towanda Club. He loved entertaining people, always ready to turn on the grill and scoop a cup of his famous clam chowder for his friends and family.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Monday, June 8th, from 3 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday morning, June 9th, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with interment at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
