
ROCKY HILL, CT___John Douglas "Doug" Welsh, Ph. D, 77, of Rocky Hill, formerly of Princeton, NJ passed away Monday May 25, 2026 in MidState Medical Center, Meriden, CT.
Doug is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Sieniuc) Welsh, two sons, Daniel N. Welsh and his wife, Danette, and Matthew J. Welsh and his wife, Mackenzie, granddaughters Charlotte and Evie, his sister, Lori Welsh Martinet and her husband, Scott, his brother, Mark Welsh and nieces and nephews. His son, Robert D. Welsh passed away in 2022. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, a son of the late Joseph and Jeanne (Tribull) Welsh.
Douglas Welsh has an undergraduate degree in Biology and a minor in Literature from Boston College and a doctorate in Molecular Biology from Rutgers University. He was a Damon Runyon Foundation fellow at SUNY Stony Brook and was a Professor of Molecular Biology at Princeton University for 26 years. Doug loved teaching, most recently an adult lecturer at OLLI UCONN. He enjoyed reading, science, literature and spending time with family.
The funeral will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM in St. John's Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester, MA. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will be held on Monday June 15, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM before his Mass in the church. Immediately following the cemetery committal relatives and friends are invited to Leo's Ristorante, 11 Leo Turo Way, Worcester as Doug's family continues to honor and celebrate his life.
