Obituary

Richard Albert “Dick” Lane, 88, of Dedham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2026.

Born on July 2, 1937, in Dedham, Richard was the son of Albert and Grace Lane. A lifelong resident of Dedham, he spent his entire life in the community he loved and proudly called home.

Richard served his country honorably as a veteran of the United States Army. Following his military service, he worked throughout the local area and became well known to many through his dedication to his community and the friendships he built over the years.

A man of service and fellowship, Richard devoted many years to Scouting, serving as a Boy Scout leader for local troops in Dedham. He found great joy in mentoring young people and helping shape future generations. Richard was also an avid square dancer and enjoyed spending time with square dancing groups throughout the region, where he formed many lasting friendships. Richard was a longtime member of Allin Congregational Church, where he found friendship, fellowship, and a strong sense of community throughout the years.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Grace Lane. He is survived by his brother, Kenneth A. Lane of Pocasset, Massachusetts, along with his devoted neighbors and caregivers, many friends, fellow Scouts, and members of the square dancing community who will miss him dearly.

Richard was blessed in his later years to be surrounded by caring neighbors who became an extended family to him. Through their friendship, companionship, and support, he was able to remain in the home he loved. Their kindness, generosity, and devotion brought Richard comfort, dignity, and joy throughout his final years and were a testament to the strength of community and friendship that he cherished so deeply.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St, Dedham. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Allin Congregational Church in Dedham. Interment will follow at Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham. Following the burial, all are invited to return to Allin Congregational Church for a memorial meal and time of fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the Dedham Food Pantry, P.O. Box 46, Dedham, MA 02027.

Richard’s quiet generosity, dedication to his community, and lifelong commitment to helping others will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
