Susanna Gale Saulog, 47, passed peacefully into the presence of her Savior on June 1, 2026, at her home in Santa Paula, California, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.
Susanna was born on October 9, 1978, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, to Joe and Sandra Doyel, the fourth of seven children. Her father served as a pastor, and her mother devoted herself to raising their family. Susanna had a happy childhood, filled with the love of her parents, the companionship of her siblings, and the many memories they made together. Throughout her life, her family remained one of God's greatest blessings to her, and the bond they shared remained strong through the years.
In 1984, the Doyel family moved to Fontana, California, where Joe Doyel planted Cornerstone Baptist Church in 1985. Susanna faithfully attended Cornerstone throughout her youth, and after graduating from high school, she enrolled at Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Wisconsin, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education in 2001.
Following graduation, Susanna returned to California and taught second and third grade at Faith Baptist School in Canoga Park from 2001 to 2011. She loved teaching and cared deeply for her students, and in turn, she was loved by them and their parents.
Although Susanna was raised in a Christian home and faithfully attended church throughout her childhood, she did not come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ until 2003, when she placed her faith in Him as Savior. While she had long known the truths of the gospel, it was then that she recognized her lost condition and trusted Jesus for her soul's salvation. Her relationship with Christ transformed her life and became the defining reality of everything that followed. The love she showed to her family, the hospitality she extended to others, the faithfulness with which she served her church, and the joy that characterized her life all flowed from her love for her Savior.
While teaching at Faith Baptist School, Susanna met Clarence Saulog. Their shared love for Christ and desire to serve Him drew them together, laying the foundation for a marriage marked by devotion to one another and faithful service to the Lord. They were married on August 9, 2011, in West Hills, California. Susanna loved Clarence more deeply than words can describe.
Together, Clarence and Susanna built a home centered on Christ, and as Clarence followed God's call into pastoral ministry, Susanna faithfully served alongside him. They served together in the Filipino ministry at Faith Baptist Church from 2017 to 2018, at Winifred Baptist Church in Winifred, Kansas, from 2019 to 2020, and at Southport Baptist Church in Port Hueneme, California, from 2020 until her last days.
God blessed Clarence and Susanna with five beautiful children. Next to her relationship with Christ, nothing brought Susanna greater joy than being a wife and mother. She loved her children deeply and invested herself fully in their lives. She homeschooled them, taught them God's Word, prayed faithfully for them, and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love. She also delighted in sharing with them many of the things she herself loved, creating memories and traditions they will carry with them for years to come.
Susanna loved life and embraced it with enthusiasm. She loved family gatherings, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Independence Day, birthday celebrations, annual trips to the Oak Glen apple orchards, Disneyland adventures, Dodgers games, fishing trips, and family vacations. She loved her church and invested faithfully and tirelessly in its people. Even when she was no longer able to play the piano and sing, she continued attending church in a wheelchair, despite her pain and discomfort.
She was an exceptional cook and loved showing hospitality. It would be impossible to count the number of friends, church members, and family members who sat around her table enjoying a home-cooked meal and her famous homemade rolls. She had a gift for bringing people together and making them feel welcomed, valued, and loved. As cancer took its toll on her health and many of the activities she once enjoyed became impossible, her love for others never diminished. When she could no longer demonstrate love through acts of service, she demonstrated it by taking genuine interest in the lives of others, encouraging them, praying for them, and faithfully pointing them to Christ.
Most of all, Susanna loved Jesus Christ. Every role she cherished—teacher, friend, church member, sister, daughter, mother, and wife—was shaped by that love. The kindness she showed, the hospitality she extended, the family she nurtured, and the ministry she embraced were all expressions of a heart devoted to her Savior.
If Susanna could leave one final message, it would not be about her accomplishments or the life she lived. It would be about the grace of God. She would want others to know the Savior who changed her life in 2003 and sustained her through every joy and every trial thereafter. Her desire was that her life—and now her death—would point others to Jesus Christ.
Susanna is survived by her husband, Clarence Saulog; her daughter, Annabelle Grace; her sons, Haddon Paul, Judson Doyel, Lincoln Martyn, and Jackson James; her parents, Joe and Sandra Doyel; her siblings, Nathan (Donni-Anne) Doyel, Jonathan Doyel, Julie (Jeremy) Coombes, Joy (Greg) Show, Becky (Casey) Kuhlman, and Sam (Airis) Doyel; her father- and mother-in-law, Cesar and Zenaida Saulog; her brother-in-law, Calvin (Jessica) Saulog; and 31 nieces and nephews, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, church family members, and dear friends.
A memorial service celebrating the faithfulness of God in Susanna's life will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 7644 Farralone Avenue, Canoga Park, California, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The family will receive and visit guests at a visiting hour to preceed the services in Church from 10am to 11am. The service will be livestreamed. Interment will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo, California.
Though her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the certainty that Susanna is now in the presence of the Lord she loved and served so faithfully. The influence of her life continues in her family, her church, and the countless lives she touched, all bearing witness to the grace of God at work in an ordinary woman who trusted an extraordinary Savior.
