It is with deep sadness and profound love that we announce the passing of Anne Marie Scannell, of West Roxbury and Gray Gables, Massachusetts, who died peacefully surrounded by her family on May 29, 2026 at the age of 81. Born on September 30, 1944 in Boston, Anne Marie lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and devotion to her family. The beloved wife of Joseph F. Scannell, Jr. (Retired BPD D-4) for 61 years, Anne Marie shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and cherished memories with her husband. Together they built a family that was the center of her world. She was a devoted mother to her five children, Mark and his wife Amy Leigh of Fayetteville, NC; Brian of Boynton Beach, FL; Sean (retired BPD) and his wife Lauren of Gray Gables, MA; Amy Fitzgerald and her husband John of West Roxbury, MA; Maura O’Keefe and her husband Richard of Foxborough, MA; and a proud and loving Grana to her eleven grandchildren Brendan, Kylie, Nora, Kevin, Celia, Conor, Maeve, Jack, Naomi, Kaela, and Joshua. She is survived by her sister Beth Knapp of Waterford, MI; her brother Michael Sweeney of Foxborough, MA; many nieces and nephews, and her two best friends of over 65 years Kathy Walsh and Pat Lyons. She is predeceased by her parents Edward and Mary Sweeney, her sister Maureen Dugan and her brother Edward Sweeney. Nothing brought her greater joy than gathering with her family, celebrating milestones, and creating traditions that will be treasured for generations.

A proud labor and delivery nurse for many years, she cared for countless patients with skill, kindness, and grace. Her commitment to helping others reflected the generosity and spirit that touched all who knew her. Anne Marie will be remembered for her warm smile, unwavering strength, and the love she so freely gave to family, friends, neighbors, and patients alike.

May she Rest in Peace.

Anne Marie’s Family would like to extend their gratitude to the Irish Angels and the hospice nurses who cared for Anne Marie in her final days.
