Kevin A. Freitas, 61, of Westport, was unexpectedly called to heaven during his sleep in the comfort of his own home on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. He was the partner, best friend and devoted companion of Diane G. Maynard of Westport, whom he loved wholeheartedly.
Mr. Freitas was born in Fall River, son of the late Samuel Ruest and the late Ellen M. (Keene) Rego and had resided in Westport for most of his life. He worked for many years at Fall River Florist Supply and more recently at Tremblay's Bus Company, New Bedford. During his many years driving bus 7, the children on Kevin’s bus and their families quickly became a big family of their own. Driving the kids was one of his greatest joys and Kevin held all of them in a special place in his heart.
Kevin was always up for an adventure. He enjoyed traveling, spending time outdoors, attending the theater, movies, and concerts. Most of all he cherished time spent with his family and friends. He was always proud to share photos of his grandsons and he looked forward to their Friday night sleepovers.
Kevin was an in-the-moment kind of man. He was the kind of man who genuinely loved each day. He loved each challenge, milestone, memory & adventure individually. And intensely. He looked forward to the things most people take for granted - like your everyday sunrise by the water or sunset in your own backyard. He projected that type of energy and excitement of life onto those around him. And he was admired for it.
Survivors include his 2 sons: Kevin A. Freitas II of Westport and Brett M. Freitas and his fiancée Kelly, both of Westport; his daughter: Melanie A. Freitas and her fiancé William of Westport; a brother: Alfred P. Rego, Jr. of Dartmouth; 3 grandchildren: Cameron, William and Riley; and his former wife: Dianne E. Freitas.
Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, June 8, 2026 at Potter Funeral Home at 6:30 P.M.
Memorial visitation will be Monday, June 8, 2026 from 5-6:30 P.M. prior to the service.
Interment is private.
