Obituary

BUXTON/LIMINGTON - Wendy Diane Van Betuw, age 70, passed away on May 26, 2026, at Maine Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born in Portland, Maine on September 10, 1955, a daughter of the late Gerard and Doris "Patty" Van Betuw and grew up in Buxton.

After graduating from Bonny Eagle High School in 1973, she attended SMCC where she received her LPN degree. She later graduated from USM with a degree in sociology. She worked as an LPN, and in other health care roles, at a number of medical facilities in Greater Portland. Wendy cared deeply for her patients and was a strong advocate for them.

She loved spending time with her friends and beloved family, including playing with her niece and nephew. She loved reading, country music, road trips and had a mischievous sense of humor. She loved to care for animals, both her pets and the local birds and chipmunks.

She was a member of the Buxton United Methodist Church and served on various committees.

She is survived by her sister, Betsy Van Betuw of Portland, Maine, brother Erik Van Betuw and his wife, Justine of Redmond, Washington, Barry Kyrklund and his wife, Jan of Flowery Branch, Georgia; niece Kendra Engel and her husband Nate Cleveland, of Stoughton, Massachusetts, nephew Westley Engel and his wife, Samantha Denham and grand-nephew Keegan of Columbia, Maryland. She is also survived by many dear friends.

Visiting Hours will be Friday, June 19 from 4-6PM at Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Rd. (Rt.22) in Buxton. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 20 at 3PM at the funeral home. Burial will be immediately following the service at Pine Grove Cemetery, Cemetery Rd., Buxton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals in Windham.
