Obituary

On May 24, 2026, Alberto M. Ferrer (80) of Wellesley, Massachusetts passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Havana, Cuba and emigrated to the United States with his family to escape the revolution. Becoming a United States citizen, he realized the American dream, loving God, his country, and his family.

After growing up in New York City, he graduated with high honors from Manhattan College School of Engineering and New York University School of Engineering and Sciences. His academic achievements earned him special opportunities to receive training at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Nuclear Reactor Safety and Technology and a fellowship from the United States Atomic Energy Commission to study Nuclear Science and Engineering. He also participated in a study at Brookhaven National Laboratory and was the author of several publications ranging from nuclear physics to “Touring the Moon.”

As a world-renowned engineering consultant and authority, Mr. Ferrer traveled to the four corners of the earth and everywhere in between. In doing so, he formed friendships and connections with people from many cultures. Those experiences gave him a profound appreciation for humanity and influenced his character and professional life.

He began his career at Con Edison and thereafter held numerous Executive-level positions at global engineering corporations, including Stone & Webster, Burns & Roe, Mott MacDonald, and Critical Technologies. He enjoyed the classical arts (music and opera), history, and politics, and was never afraid to share his point of view, speaking always with moral clarity. As an immigrant, he was grateful to those who helped him and his family and was always ready to help others in return.

Mr. Ferrer built his family in Wellesley, Massachusetts and was an active member of his community, serving on the Advisory Committee in recent years. He will be missed by many. He leaves his wife Sandra (Martino), his children Andrew Ferrer (Caitlin) of Wellesley and daughter Alexandra Ferrer (Robert O’Connor) of Wellesley, and six grandchildren: Gerald, Grace, Myles, Maggie, Ellie, and Bennett, all of Wellesley. He also leaves his sister Asuncion Dominguez Ferrer of Sacramento, California, and nephew Francois Lopez Ferrer (Sofia) of Padua, Italy.

Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 477 Washington St. Wellesley on Wednesday, May 27th from 4-7pm. Funeral from the funeral home on Thursday, May 28th at 9am, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Paul Church, Wellesley at 10am. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham. Donations may be made in Alberto's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
