
Betty Gay Armstrong Smith, 91, of Enigma passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Southwell Health and Rehab in Adel. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Scott Walker officiating. Mrs. Smith will be laid to rest at Turner Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Enigma. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Michael Sumner, Brian Connell, Brandon Sumner, Cameron Black, Haley Peters, and Nicole Roland will serve as pallbearers.
Born June 28, 1934, in Booneville, Mississippi, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Otis “Hick” Armstrong and Nova Barnes Armstrong. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Eugene “Gene” Smith; one son, Bill Smith; a son-in-law, Steve O’Brien, one granddaughter, Candace Elizabeth Smith; and one grandson, Ricky Colbert O’Brien. Before retiring, she worked as a dietary aide in the Tift County School System; and she was a member of Tift Avenue Church of God. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandkids and her dogs.
Mrs. Smith leaves behind to cherish her memory, one son, Randy Smith of Tifton; two daughters and one son-in-law Kathy O’Brien of Bowman and Debbie and Eston Connell of Nashville; six grandchildren, Brett Smith, Michael Sumner, Brian Connell, Brandi Smith, Tasha Smith and Trevor O’Brien; five great-grandchildren, Lexi Peters, Belle Conger, Kelee Smith, Brandon Sumner and Audrey Connell; and one great-great grandson, Sawyer Conger.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to Nashville Church of God, 1251 Adel Road, Nashville, GA 31639.
