
Luciano G. “Lucky” Custodinho, 90, of Lowell, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 14, 2026, with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Maria do Rosario (Azinheira) Custodinho, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage before her death in 2021.
Luciano was born on February 24, 1936, in Olhao, Portugal, where he and his older brother were raised by their parents Manuel DeSousa Custodinho and Rosaria Gueirrero.
Luciano and Maria were married in 1962 and spent the first 6 years living in southern France where Luciano worked as a mason. In 1968 they relocated to the U.S. with their 2 young children and settled into the Portuguese community in the Back Central neighborhood of Lowell. A devoted and hardworking family man, Luciano enjoyed continuous employment at various companies in the area.
Luciano was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Dorothy DeSousa, followed by his brother, Custodio Clemente “Clem” DeSousa of Lowell. He is survived by his daughter, Maria Christina Custodinho of Lowell; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lisa Custodinho of Lowell; his beloved granddaughter, Oksana Custodinho of Lowell; his nephews, Leonard DeSousa of Lowell, and Mark DeSousa of Tyngsboro and North Carolina.
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 4-7 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, 978-458-6818.
His funeral service will begin Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by procession for burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tewksbury.
