Obituary

Marguerite “Margo” A. (Masse) Byers, 79, of Mahaffey, PA passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of the late Maurice A. and Florence M. (Roy) Masse, she was born on December 2, 1946 in Woonsocket, RI.

Margo wed Robert “Bob” M. Byers on May 5, 1968. They had shared over forty-six years of marriage when Bob passed away on September 26, 2014.

She was of the Roman Catholic faith.

A registered nurse, Margo’s first employment was with the Woonsocket Hospital before moving to Pennsylvania, where she worked for both the Clearfield and Punxsutawney Hospitals. Later in life, Margo was a nurse for the Pine Grove State Correctional Institute in Indiana, PA. The majority of her nursing career was dedicated to the Punxsutawney Medical Center of Mahaffey, PA.

Margo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her father, Maurice, passed away when Margo was only sixteen years old. As the oldest of the three sisters, Margo willingly shouldered a lot of responsibility within her family. The strong bonds Margo built with her sisters remained throughout her entire life.

Focused on caring for others, when Margo’s husband, Bob, became extremely ill, she lived in the hospital room staying by his bedside for nine months.

Selflessly, Margo always made sure her children had a better life then she had and always put her children before herself. Much like her children, her grandchildren were the loves of her life. Watching over her grandchildren was never a burden, but moments Margo cherished.

She derived great enjoyment from reading, especially the works of Stephen King and Dean Koontz, to name just two of her favorite authors.

In the early mornings you could see Margo jogging for miles at the Mahaffey ballfield, as well as suntanning in the afternoons in her yard. Even in December, if it was over sixty degrees and sunny, Margo could be found sunbathing outdoors.

Although most people did not know, Margo was an accomplished pianist.

Margo also loved traveling, dancing; watching movies and caring for any, and all, animals, who happened to cross her path.

Her memory is deeply cherished by her two children: Darlene O’Halloran of North Attleboro, MA and Robert “Bob” Byers and wife Melissa of Manns Choice, PA; her five grandchildren: Caitlin; Megan and Thomas O’Halloran and Ethan R. and Emma E. Byers and her two sisters: Christine R. Hainley and husband, Keith and Kathleen Bergeron and husband, Roland, all of Woonsocket, RI.

Family and friends will be received from 1-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd., 18944 Route 286 Hwy East, Hillsdale, PA. At 3:00 p.m. a celebration of Margo’s life will be shared by her son, Bob and her grandson, Ethan. Interment will take place at the Mahaffey Cemetery, Mahaffey, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children’s Hospital.
