Barbara A. ‘Maggie’ Malec, 72 of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 11, 2026.
She was born on June 30, 1953 in Lowell and was a daughter of the late John and Josephine (Jankow) Malec. She was raised in Lowell where she attended the area schools.
Maggie loved working as a Police Officer with the Lowell Police Department on the Task Force until her retirement. In her younger days, she was a Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 10 years; and prior to that at the Lowell Sun as an administrative assistant.
Maggie was a devoted animal lover who enjoyed watching television and keeping up with current events. She volunteered with the Lowell Humane Society and served as a foster parent for many years.
She is survived by her two children, Shayla Malec of Lowell, and Amado Malec of Lowell; her grandson, Cash Surprenant; her sister, Terry Malec and her partner, David Baxter of NH, and many other extended family and friends.
Donations in her memory may be made to any substance abuse recovery charity of your choice.
