Obituary

Escolastica Maria (de Medeiros) Correia, 85, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the cherished wife of Jose Luis Correia, with whom she shared nearly 63 devoted years of marriage.

Born on São Miguel in the Azores, she was the beloved daughter of the late Manuel and Luisa (Duarte) de Medeiros and the youngest of seven sisters. She carried with her the quiet strength, resilience, and deep appreciation for the simple routines of daily life that shaped her upbringing.

Mrs. Correia made her home in Dartmouth, where she lovingly raised her children. She often said that the happiest time of her life was when her children were young. She also enjoyed spending her retirement years in Sarasota, Florida, where she and her husband created many cherished memories.

She had a love of travel and embraced every opportunity to explore the world, visiting numerous countries throughout Europe and enjoying many cruises shared with her family. These experiences brought her great joy and created lasting memories for all who traveled with her. Her presence was a constant source of comfort and support to those she loved.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Jose Luis Correia; her five children, Helena Roberts and her husband Kenneth of Dartmouth, Emanuel Correia and his wife Ann Marie of Westport, Aguinaldo Correia and his wife Lisa of Dartmouth, Luis Correia and his wife Connie of Florida, and Diane Correia of England; her eight cherished grandchildren, Nicole Correia, Meghan Noel, Julia Thomas Iuliano, Jarred Correia, Aimee Correia, Michael Correia, Thomas Correia, and Emma Correia; and her great-granddaughter, Ava Helena Iuliano, who brought her much joy.

Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace, reunited with those who went before her, and forever watching over those she loved.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at St. Mary’s Church, South Dartmouth, at 10:00 A.M., to which relatives and friends are kindly invited.

Interment will follow at South Dartmouth Cemetery for family members only.
