Obituary

Gregg E. Savage, Sr., 79, of Braintree, passed peacefully into his heavenly home on April 18, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with dementia.

Born in Hull, Massachusetts, Gregg was the beloved son of Arthur and Janet Savage. He was raised in Hull, where he attended school and formed lifelong friendships. Gregg proudly served in the Army Reserves as a cook, an experience that sparked his lifelong love of cooking—something he joyfully shared over the years by preparing countless breakfasts at his church fairs.

As a teenager, Gregg began working alongside his father at the family business, Savage Tax Service. After his father’s passing, Gregg carried on the legacy, faithfully serving his clients for over 50 years until his retirement. Throughout those decades, he built not only a successful business but also lasting relationships with the many “tax friends” who became like family.

Gregg was also a talented musician who loved playing the drums and singing. He performed with his band along the South Shore and at Nantasket Beach with his dear friends Jack and Richie. His passion for music extended to his faith, as he dedicated more than 20 years singing in the choir at South Congregational Church.

Gregg cherished time spent traveling with his beloved wife, Linda, visiting family including his sister and brother-in-law Janet and Bill Albert; his late brother Deane and his wife, Marcia Savage; and his late brother Bruce and sister-in-law Barbara Savage.

Among Gregg’s greatest joys was watching his children and grandchildren grow into adulthood. He is lovingly remembered by his son, Gregg E. Savage, Jr. of Alamosa, Colorado; his step-son, Jeffrey Bernard of Braintree; his step-daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Scott Killian of Braintree; and his three cherished grandchildren, Daniel, Amy, and Alexander Killian.

Above all, Gregg is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Linda Savage, the love of his life and his constant companion—especially throughout his final, challenging, yet deeply meaningful years. In the end, all Gregg wished for was to hold his beloved Linda, and it was in that peace and love that he gently passed into eternal rest.

Gregg was deeply loved by many and will be profoundly missed.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11:00am at South Congregational Church, 1075 Washington Street, Braintree, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gregg’s memory to South Congregational Church.
