Obituary

WEBSTER — Ronald J. Girard, 60, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2026, at UMass Harrington Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. His passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Ronald leaves behind his beloved husband and devoted caregiver, Johnathan J. Stegeman, whose unwavering love and support were a constant source of strength. He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret “Peg” and her husband Richard Sutton of Warwick, Rhode Island, and Dee and her husband Roland Planet of Harrisville, Rhode Island; his sister-in-law, Lisa Priestly; and several cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur H. and Delina M. (Woods) Girard and brothers, Arthur and George Girard, whom he held close to his heart.

Born on June 5, 1965, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Ronald was raised in Nasonville. Family meant everything to him, and those early years helped shape his kind, loyal, and quietly determined spirit. He was a proud graduate of Burrillville High School, Class of 1983.

Ronald proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for nine years. His service was marked by dedication, professionalism, and honor, earning him numerous commendations, including the Air Force Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one oak leaf cluster, along with additional award ribbons. During his military career, he completed the dental laboratory specialist course, the supervisor safety course, and graduated from the NCO Leadership School—achievements that reflected his commitment to excellence and growth.

Following his military service, Ronald built several successful careers in travel, then telecom and finally as a coding programmer working closely with audioat Cochlear Americas in Denver. Known for his intelligence, attention to detail, and quiet perseverance, he worked there for several years before retiring in 2017.

Outside of his professional life, Ronald found peace and joy in the outdoors. He loved hiking, camping beneath open skies and warm fires, and being surrounded by nature—the places where he felt most at ease and most himself.

Ronald will be remembered for his gentle heart, his strength, and the deep love he shared for his family and close friends. His memory will live on in the lives he touched and the many moments of kindness and laughter he gave so freely.
