Obituary

Bobby Leo Lane
December 28, 1941 – April 16, 2026

Bob Lane, allegedly 84—despite insisting he was 39 for the past 20 years—passed away peacefully on the night of April 16, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Reedley, California, in 1941 to Anna Mae and Fay Lane, who knew from the moment he arrived that he was destined to be an accomplished man. He was the middle child, with sisters Fayrene Hofer and Arlene Sanders. Bob attended Orange Cove Elementary and graduated from Reedley High School, Class of 1959, before beginning his career at Shell USA Inc. in 1965.

It was during this time that he married his sweetheart, Janet Clara Christman of Selma, California, on September 18, 1965—all of which came as a surprise to his family, who were fairly certain Bob might run off and join the circus instead.

Bob was a devoted father and grandfather who found his greatest joy in his family, especially his grandkids. He never missed an opportunity to show up—whether cheering from the stands at games and practices, spoiling his grandkids at the fair, showing up for every award and school performance, having a family meal (as long as it wasn’t chicken) and simply being present for the everyday moments that mattered most. His steady presence, strong voice, and unwavering opinions were matched only by his unconditional love, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

He was deeply loved, especially by his wife, his children Barron and Shonna, his daughter-in-law Lupe, his four grandchildren and their partners—Angela (Dolores), Mason, Makenna (Matthew), and Evan (Hailey)—his all of his great grand-pups, as well as his extended family of siblings, nieces, nephews, the McDonalds morning crew and all those he welcomed into his home and heart.

Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Fayrene Hofer and Arlene Sanders, and his parents, who are no doubt already reacquainting themselves with his antics. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Janet Lane; his children, Shonna Lancaster and Barron Lane; his daughter-in-law Lupe; and his grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on June 6th with details shared directly with friends and loved ones. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura.
