WEST BALDWIN-Bessie Marie Guptill, age 94, passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital on April 18th, 2026. Daughter of the late Raymond Sr. and Genevieve (Thorne) Murch, Bessie was born on August 7th, 1931, in Baldwin.
Growing up, Bessie attended Potter Academy in Sebago and was the oldest of ten siblings. Bessie had many enjoyments during her life such as traveling on bus trips with her husband William, cooking-especially working as the head baker for Sacopee Valley High School, crocheting, watching the birds, sitting in her swing waving to people as they drove by her home, having birthdays spent with her nieces-Karen, Kathy and Debbie, time she spent with Melvin, and one of her favorite enjoyments was spending time with her family everyday especially during holidays and Sunday meals.
Bessie is predeceased by her husband- William Guptill, her parents- Raymond Sr. and Genevieve (Thorne) Murch, her siblings- Mable Biliss, Raymond Murch, Melvin Murch, Marlo Murch and Shirley Murch. She is survived by her children- Ronald Guptill (April), Joel Guptill Sr. (Beth) and Steven Guptill, her siblings- Clifford Murch, Eddie Murch, Grace Newton and Frankie Murch, her six grandchildren, eighteen Great Grandchildren and two Great Great Grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday April 25th at 1 PM at the New West Baldwin Cemetery, Rt. 113, Baldwin. In lieu of flowers please donate to Harvest Hills Animals Shelter in Bessies honor.
