
Anthony “Tony” Joseph Noviello Jr., 81
Tony was born in Derry, NH on June 11, 1944 and resided in Boston for his early years, grade school and high school. He graduated and taught at Boston Latin School, where he also played on the football team. He received fidelity awards for Latin and Greek studies. He was a student of many languages which included Latin, Greek, German, Russian, and Spanish.
After high school, he attended and received a bachelor’s degree in history and linguistics from Parsons College in Iowa. He returned home to Boston after college to work at MIT. He worked to help develop early computer systems.
In 1994, he moved to Searsport, ME to pursue his love of poetry and word study. He quickly became a local celebrity and was known as a wordsmith, poet, writer, and sage of Searsport. He was also recognized and interviewed by local reporters and did a segment of his life on public television. While in Maine, he also wrote two happiness books. He lived in Searsport for 15 years until his health started to decline.
He moved back to Boston and took up residency at Mount Pleasant Home in Jamaica Plain to be near family and friends. He later moved to Foremost Nursing Home in Sharon to be near his sister, Peggy Noviello, and niece, Nuala Doherty. After a brief illness, he passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026 at the nursing home surrounded by family. He was the son of the late Anthony and Jenny Noviello. He leaves his sister, Margaret, of Canton, MA, brother John Noviello, of Punta Gorda, FL, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. He will be missed for his kindness, intelligence, witty personality and for greeting everyone with a joke and a poem.
His remains, by his wishes, will be cremated and his ashes will be spread in a place special to him.
