Obituary

Ann Beatrice (Metivier) Lalime, 76, of Woonsocket passed away at sunset on Saturday March 28, 2026 after a yearlong battle with cancer. Daughter of the late Laurier “Larry” Metivier and Fernande (Lamoureux) Metiver, Ann grew up in Lincoln, an Albion girl, through and through. She was the oldest of 10 siblings, taking her role of "big sister" seriously throughout her life. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Class of 1967. Ann worked for Desormier Roofing as a secretary, before marrying the love of her life, Richard Lalime, in 1969 and moving to Nashua, New Hampshire. They started their family in NH before coming home to Rl, first residing in Manville for a couple of years before settling in Woonsocket in 1978 to raise their 2 children, R. Robert Lalime Jr and Tammy Lalime Cahill.
Ann worked in the service and retail industry for over a decade, including several jobs at the Lincoln Mall. She served as a local Girl Scout leader in Woonsocket for 5 years. Ann was a social butterfly at heart! Wherever Ann would go, she would strike up a friendly conversation with a stranger and walk away with a friend, or at least someone whose day was made brighter because of their interaction. Ann will always be remembered by her family, friends and neighbors for her sunny disposition, her kindness, and her open offers of a helping hand to anyone who needed it. The ripples of the impact of that kindness spread far beyond what Ann ever took credit for. Her support was quiet and unassuming, big and small. Ann was a caregiver by nature and so many in her life are grateful for her love and nurturing, including in her most cherished roles as 'Auntie Ann", "Mems", and of course, "Mom".
Ann loved to be out and about and was always up for an adventure! She looked forward to her treks to Arizona to visit her brothers and sisters. She had a ball on cruises to the Bahamas and Bermuda with her Aunt Jeanne, swimming with the dolphins and zip lining. She especially cherished the tradition of family trips to the lnn at Shelburne Farms in Vermont. Ann was happiest walking on the beach by the ocean and appreciating the natural beauty and awe of the clouds in the sky or a stunning pink sunset. She loved watching musicals, playing Scrabble, yard-sailing, and connecting with people. Even this past year, when Ann was not always feeling her best, she still had a zest for life, never missing an opportunity to get out for a girls' getaway with her daughter. And Friday night "dates" with her son became a treasured part of her routine-these “mother-son” dates often involved food and a surprise destination or partner; and were a reliable source of laughter and joy for Ann.
Ann is survived by her most loving husband Richard, whom she expressed having "no regrets" in sharing her life with over the 56 years of their marriage; her children, Rob of Providence, and Tammy and her husband Robert of Woonsocket; her cherished grandchildren, Timothy "TJ" Cahill and Peyton Cahill; her siblings, Michael Metivier (Jane), Catherine Maloney, James Metivier (Elizabeth), Carol Metivier, Sandra Metivier; Russell Metivier, Jane Gauthier (Marc), and Larry Metivier (Roberta); her brother in-law, Gerry Lalime (Grace) and her sisters-in-law Francine Jackson (Michael) and Anne-Marie Murphy (John); her Aunt and friend, Jeanne Lacombe; and many, many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brother Bruce Metivier (Michelle).
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday May 2, 2026 at 10:00 am in St. Ambrose Church, 191 School St. Albion. Committal services will follow in St. Ambrose Cemetery. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. ln lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Ann's memory to the American Red Cross for disaster relief or the RISPCA. Also, smile at a stranger or offer up a small random act of kindness today to honor Ann. Arrangements are in care of the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket.
