
Kathleen B. (Higgins) Nigh of Ventura, CA passed into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 after a lengthy illness under the care of hospice. Born in Joliet, IL on June 20, 1945 to Fred and Agnes Higgins, she was the 3rd of 7 children. She was thrilled to celebrate her 80th birthday last year surrounded by family and friends who loved her.
In addition to Joliet, IL, Kathleen also lived in Casper, WY, Rushville, IN and over half her life, including the final 38 years in Ventura, CA. She graduated high school from the Academy of Saint Catherine in 1963. She married Carl E. Nigh Jr. sharing 30 years together raising their sons. She was proud to continue her education in accounting through remote studies. She was a dedicated and valued employee at several places throughout her career before retiring in 2016. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Cassie/Mom/Grammy loved everything involving her family and spending time with them. She thoroughly enjoyed attending her sons and later grandkid’s sporting and dance events, cuddling with her dog, gardening, making her famous snickerdoodle cookies and cheese balls, and Friday morning coffee with her siblings. In recent years she enjoyed helping and visiting her neighbors and friends at Cypress Meadows. And she may have enjoyed a piece of chocolate or two and an occasional glass of wine as well.
Survivors include her sons who she loved dearly, Michael (Cindy) Nigh of Camarillo, CA, A.J. (Kathy) Nigh of Greenfield, IN. She adored her grandchildren Brittany Taing (Tyler) of Berne, IN, Cody Nigh of San Diego, CA, Carly Nigh of Camarillo, CA, Austin Nigh of Greenfield, IN, and enjoyed seeing videos of her 2 great grandchildren, Juliana and Xavier Taing of Berne, IN. Additionally, her siblings, Michael (Ellen) Higgins of Oxnard, CA, Laura Krall of Ventura, CA, and Molly (Bill) LaChance of Ventura, CA survive along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Fred in 1986 and, Agnes in 2002, her sister Mary Lee in 2001, and brothers, Tom in 1995 and Andy in 2020.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Ventura, CA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated, April 13th, 2026 at 11am, at Our Lady of the Assumption in Ventura, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Kathleen’s name to the Ventura County Animal Services where she adopted her beloved dog and companion, Abbey.
