
Joseph O. Novo, Jr., 84, of Westport, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Mary H. (Amaral) Novo.
Mr. Novo was born in St. Michael, Azores, son of the late Jose O. and Emilia (Pereira Braz) Novo, and had resided in Westport since 1978. Prior to retirement in 2004, he worked for Berkshire Hathaway until it closed in 1963 and was also a laborer in the Laborers' Local Union 151, Cambridge and held positions with Capone Construction Co., Modern Continental and Belair Construction Co. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport. He played the Portuguese guitar and harmonica. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and soccer. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Survivors along with his wife include his 2 sons: Joseph O. Novo III of Westport and Manuel Novo and his wife Christine of Little Compton; his daughter: Carrie M. Novo-Suspiro and her husband Robert of Tiverton; brother: Frank Novo and his wife Mary of Somerset; sister: Alice Canito and her husband Bob of Fall River; 4 grandchildren: Justin, Kevin, Kyle and Pacey; 3 great grandchildren: Liam, Juliana and Gabriel; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Mary Marshall and John O. Novo.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, March 30, 2026 from the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 11:00 A.M.
Calling hours Sunday, March 29, 2026 from 4-7 P.M.
Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
