Obituary

Edward A. McKinnon, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Monday March 23, 2026, at the Massachusetts General Hospital lovingly surrounded by his family. He was 94 years of age.

Ed was born in Boston on May 2, 1931, a son of the late Edward and Alice (McGahan) McKinnon. He grew up in Charlestown and graduated from the High School of Commerce. He also attended Tilton Academy. Ed continued his education receiving a bachelor's degree from Bentley College and taking classes at Suffolk University and Bates College in Maine where he continued his basketball career, telling all around him that “He was the best basketball player to come out of Charlestown.” Ed was a veteran of the Korean War serving proudly in the US Army. After serving his country, Ed started a long career with the US Postal Service as a letter carrier serving the people of Charlestown for over 37 years.

Edward loved his summer trips to Singing Cove, Weirs Beach, Lake Winnipesaukee, NH, spending time with his family and howling at the moon. In Charlestown he was a member of the JW Conway Bunker Hill Post 26 American Legion and the Bunker Hill Knights of Columbus Council 62.

Ed is the beloved husband of Joan M. (White) McKinnon. He is the devoted father of Tara McKinnon and her husband Clay Liebeck of Highland, MI, Pam Rossetti and her partner Keith Thomas of North Andover, and Boston Firefighter Edward A. McKinnon Jr. of Methuen. Ed is the loving grandfather of Dr. Courtney Willis and her husband Ted Jackson, Erin Jones and her husband Erin, Ian McKinnon and William McKinnon. He is the great-grandfather of Clara Jackson. Ed was the brother of the late Elinor Nolan and was the uncle of Edward Nolan, Mary Riddinger and the late George Nolan. He is further survived by many great-nieces and nephews and his special friend Annmarie McCaffrey.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday, March 28th from 10AM-12PM with his funeral service at 12PM in the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial will be private.
