
David Allen Mathis, 75, of Brookfield passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Southwell Health and Rehab in Adel. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Brookfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Davis officiating. Mr. Mathis will be laid to rest in the Tift Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Brookfield Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
The active deacons of Brookfield Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pabllbearers will be former deacons of Brookfield Baptist Church and Ernesto Cordoba.
Born June 7, 1951, in Tifton, Mr. Mathis was the son of the late James J. Mathis, Sr. and Elaine Bell Mathis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James J. Mathis, Jr.; and one sister-in-law, Peggy Mathis. He was a member of Brookfield Baptist Church and loved his church family. He traveled all over the world and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves. His dream was to be a farmer and when he was younger, he worked on the family farm with his father.
Mr. Mathis is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Emory “Zig” and Iris Mathis of Hahira; a nephew and his wife, Allen and Jennifer Mathis of Danbury, Connecticut; and three nieces, Ivey Mathis of Brookfield and Jada Mathis and Jewel Mathis, both of Hahira.
