Obituary

Sabbag, Stephen Mark (78) of Swampscott, MA passed away on February 12, 2026, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. He was surrounded by his loving family who supported him through his lengthy illness.

Beloved husband of Sandy (Moore) Sabbag of 47 years. A devoted and proud father to Brett Sabbag and his wife, Marisa Roman, and to Skylar Sabbag and her husband, Vince Torchia. Loving grandfather of Sloane Sabbag, who brought him so much joy, as well as his adoring grand-pups, Charlie and Brady.

Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Stephen was the cherished son of the late Richard and Esther Sabbag of Revere and devoted brother of the late Kenneth Sabbag.

Stephen attended Revere High School where he played on the varsity football team including the 1964 undefeated season. He went on to attend the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he continued his football career and earned his bachelor’s degree. He would later earn his master’s degree in education from Boston State College. A lifelong lover of sports and staying active, Stephen also enjoyed playing in adult recreation leagues, particularly hockey and basketball.

Stephen taught in the Revere public school system and shared his love of athletics by coaching football at Chelsea High School, Belmont Hill School, and Revere High School. During his coaching career, he helped lead Belmont Hill to two Independent School League (ISL) football championships.

After retiring from teaching and coaching, Stephen began a second career with United Airlines, where he embraced the opportunity to travel and explore new places with his family, especially his favorite place - Hawaii.

Stephen will be remembered for his outgoing personality, quick wit, and warm, welcoming smile. Kind and hardworking, he loved his family deeply and treasured every moment spent with them. He rarely missed an opportunity to support Brett and Skylar’s athletic pursuits. He was always present at his son Brett’s football games at Colby College, where he especially loved cooking for the tailgates. He also proudly followed his daughter Skylar’s soccer career at Syracuse, traveling across the country to watch her play.

At home, he treasured the companionship of his beloved dog, Colby, who was truly his best friend. He also valued the friendships he built over the years, especially the time spent with friends at the Marblehead Jewish Community Center.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Church in Boston - 206 Clarendon Street, Boston, MA 02116.
