SHIRLEY M. (DEYARMIN) WETZEL OBITUARY
Shirley Mae (Deyarmin) Wetzel, 73, of Cherry Tree, PA died on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at UPMC Hospital in Altoona, PA.
The daughter of Lowry “Fred” and Elizabeth Sarah (Sinclair) Deyarmin, she was born on May 19, 1952 in Spangler, PA.
On June 28, 1969, Shirley married Max E. “Gene” Wetzel, Jr. and they have shared over fifty-six years of marriage together.
Prior to her retirement, Shirley worked at the Purchase Line High School for over twenty years as a custodian.
She greatly loved her grandchildren, and treasured her time spent with them. Shirley enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and going on casino trips with her husband Gene.
Shirley will greatly be missed by her husband, Gene of Cherry Tree, PA; her daughter, Gina Hetrick and husband Kevin of Punxsutawney, PA; her three grandchildren: Walker and Everleigh Hetrick and Maddox Wilson; her siblings: Sybert “Joseph” Deyarmin and wife Tina of Cherry Tree, PA; Elmer Frank “Pete” Deyarmin of Cherry Tree, PA; Evelyn Ann “Susie” Wetzel and husband Don of Mahaffey, PA and Catherine “Cindy” Shilling and husband Rich of Dysart, PA and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son: Matthew Robert Wetzel; her three brothers: Fred “Buck” Deyarmin, Jr.; Edgar “Gab” Deyarmin and Wilmer “Bub” Deyarmin; her father-in-law: Max E. Wetzel, Sr. and her mother-in-law: Mary (Davis) Wetzel; her sister-in-law: Constance Deyarmin and her brother-in-law: William “Bull” Wetzel.
Private arrangements are with the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA.
