Obituary

Robert “Bob” Prouty, age 84 passed away on February 15, 2026. Born in Springfield, son of Kenneth Prouty and Emily Pallatino. Bob was a huge sports enthusiast. His first love was hockey, where he knew the players by their first name and spent many hours talking the game with them at the old red barn in Chicopee. In high school Bob also loved baseball where he had his chance at being a professional pitcher, except for an eye injury that kept him out of that sport before he entered the Navy. He lived with his uncle Ralph and his wife Josephine for many years before entering the Navy. Bob faithfully served the United States Navy for six years where he was a crew member of the Blue Angels. This is where he found his love in electronics. After serving in the Navy, Bob worked for 45+ years in the IT Department at Mass Mutual Ins Co. There, he climbed the corporate ladder and ended up having over 2000 employees worldwide. Bob had mini business acquaintances. In fact, he even had a chance to work with Steve Jobs. He also had a business friend who was a VP at a specific bank who flew Bob and four other gentlemen to New York one weekend. He told them they needed to develop a system where the depositors could obtain money from their accounts at any time 24 seven. Bob was the computer expert and helped develop the very first ATM machine after retirement. Bob was able to enjoy the Boston Red Sox, Patriots and still his first love of hockey. He also loved to sit at La Florentina’s and have coffee every morning where he met these wonderful men and there, he started a coffee clutch. They are Rich, Bill, Ron, Les, Mick, Chuck, Charlie, Jersey, Rich, Elio and Doug. He is survived by his wife of 16 years Mary (O’Brien), Mark and Joane Pallatino of East Longmeadow, David and Susan (deceased) Pallatino of Wilbraham, Elizabeth and Dennis Stebbins of Chicopee, Veronica and Ralph, Uzar of Amherst, Hampshire and Michael and Caren O’Brien of Mason, New Hampshire. Mini Pallatino and Mazzarino, cousins many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by many Pallatino and Mazzarino, aunts and uncles and grandparents. Calling hours at the Grise funeral home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee on March 19th from 4 to 7 PM and a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the funeral home followed by Mass in Saint Anne’s Church at 11 AM followed by a burial with military honors in the Ma Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
