WEBSTER – Ruth A. “Putsie” (Daniels) Hughes, 83, died Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at home surrounded by family.
She leaves her husband of 64 years, John J. Hughes, III; a son, Mark A. Hughes and his wife Heidi of Webster; a daughter, Sharon L. Kuebler and her husband Christopher of Dudley; 4 grandchildren, Lauren Hughes and John E. Hughes, both of Webster, Benjamin C. Kuebler and his fiancée Lyra Riley of Worcester and Zoe R. Kuebler and her fiancé Colton Heerdt of Dudley; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Constance “Connie” Malboeuf, Rita Sokolowski, Jane Dardeen and Theresa “Terry” Gignac, and by her brothers Robert “Monk” Daniels and Roger “Moose” Daniels.
She was born at home on September 27, 1942, the youngest child of Benjamin and Ruth (Baggott) Daniels and lived here all her life. She attended Bartlett High School.
She first worked at Webster Shoe Company in Webster. She was a lunch lady at Saint Louis School and then was a tester at Cranston Print Works Company for many years before retiring due to illness in 1998.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of Saint Louis Church and a former member of the Saint louis League of Catholic Women. She and her husband were volunteers for the annual church festival for many years.
She enjoyed traveling, especially visiting friends in Florida and occasional trips to Mohegan Sun and to Las Vegas. Her family was the center of her life and she loved hosting celebrations at her home. Her favorite hours were the time she spent with her grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held from noon to 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 14, at Point Breeze Restaurant, 114 Point Breeze Road. Donations in her name may be made to VNA Care Network & Hospice, 67 Millbrook Street, Worcester, MA 01606 or to a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street.
