
CHICOPEE – Louis A. Lajeunesse, 104, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, February 22, 2026. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home in Chicopee on May 3, 1921, a beloved son of the late Louis A. and Mary L. (Rivest) Lajeunesse. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee Trade High School and had lived in Chicopee his entire life. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and attained the rank of Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Area Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. He was employed as a machinist at Pratt and Whitney in Windsor Locks, CT. During his leisure time, he enjoyed carpentry, photography, rebuilding cars with his late wife and cheering on his New England Patriots. He was a founding member of the Chicopee Sportsmen’s Club. He was proud to have built his Chicopee home and the family cottage on Center Lake in Becket. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Angeline M. (Czerkiewicz) Lajeunesse. They were married on September 26, 1942 at Saint Stanislaus Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 78 years of happiness together. He leaves his four loving children, Beverly J. Nowak of Chicopee, Alan Lajeunesse and his wife, Milé, of West Springfield; David Lajeunesse of Feeding Hills and Linda Root and her husband, Dr. Stephen Root, of Ludlow; his nine cherished grandchildren, Tonya Alberti and her husband, Christopher, Erika Hayslip and her husband, David, Aaron Welsh and his wife, Rachel, Danielle Welsh-Bernal and her husband, Canche, Gregory Lajeunesse and his wife, Erin, Adam Lajeunesse and his wife, Stephanie, Derek Lajeunesse and his wife, Michelle, Dr. Christopher Root and his wife, Beata, and Jeremy Root; his ten cherished great grandchildren, Ethan and Gavin, Connor, Emelia and Zhara, Alexis and Zachary, Sienna and Avery, and Peter; his cherished great great granddaughter; Scarlet; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 9 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Naval Military Honors will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. There are no visiting hours. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
