Obituary

Shahla Hedjran
June 10, 1950 – February 16, 2026

Shahla Hedjran, 75, passed away in her home on February 16, 2026, in Mystic, CT.
She was born on June 10, 1950, in Hamadan, Iran, one of eight children of Moloud Esfahani and Hassan Hedjran. Raised in a close-knit family, she developed a strong work ethic early on. She earned her Master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Tehran, with hopes of becoming a dietitian.
Shahla lived through the upheaval of the Islamic Revolution, which reshaped her life. Facing uncertainty, she made the courageous decision to leave Iran with her children in search of safety and greater hope for a better future.
Although highly educated, starting over in a new country meant taking on any available work. She held multiple jobs to support her children and create stability, believing deeply in responsibility and perseverance. Her sacrifices opened doors for her family, whom she valued more than any personal accomplishment.
Her children were the center of her world. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Alireza Tahbaz, whose memory she carried with her always. She is survived by her daughter, Pantea Umrysz, her son-in-law, Tom Umrysz, and her beloved grandchildren, Ariya and Jackson.
Shahla will be remembered for her resilience and quiet strength. Her love and sacrifices will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut at https://wish.org/ct.
