
Richard Ernest Holmes, 80 years old of Ventura, CA; passed away on February 5th at Community Memorial Hospital.
Richard Was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Richard Franklin Holmes and Alice Jean Holmes on March 3rd 1945. He spent his childhood in Saudi Arabia, where he made some of his fondest memories.
Richard attended high school at Acalanes High in Lafayette, CA. After graduating high school he went on to earn three degrees from the University of California at Berkeley from 1963 to 1971. He then served his community as a prosecutor in the Ventura County DA's office for nearly 30 years, mainly trying murder cases. He had an immense love for reading, history, and the pursuit of knowledge. He greatly enjoyed sports, especially college football and rooting for his alma mater. His favorite way to spend his time was being with his children and grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his daughter Katherine Holmes Garman, his son Richard Thomas Holmes and his grandchildren Dane Holmes Garman, Lara Jere Garman and Sasha Faye Garman. He leaves a legacy of fighting for justice in the community, being an excellent father, grandfather and role model.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
