Nathan R. “Dick” Cooper, a resident of Westport, MA, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026 at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
Dick was always up for anything. He never said no to ideas or opportunities. He was also a planner. Whether drawing up plans for an upgrade around the house or mapping out a trip, his gears were constantly turning. You could always find blueprints and graph paper on his desk — and, of course, a jar of peanuts. Dogs were a constant companion throughout his life, including his golden retrievers, who always put a smile on his face.
Dick is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kelley (O’Brien) Cooper; his son Michael Cooper, with his partner Susan; and his daughters Michele (Cooper) Fischer, with her husband Neal, and Kylie Cooper. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Ashley Cooper, Devyn Cooper, Mariah Cooper, and Chelsea Cooper; four great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Harley, Lincoln, and Winnie; and his sister, Laurice Jackson. He is predeceased by his two older brothers, Charles and Joseph Cooper, and his younger brother, Roger Cooper.
He was born in Berlin, NH to the late Rev. Herbert Almon Cooper and the late Bertha Bernice (Smith) Cooper. He graduated from Berwick High School in Berwick, ME and attended the Water and Wastewater Technical School in Neosho, MO. He attended Northeastern University in Boston, MA and later transferred to the University of New Hampshire, where he received an AA degree in 1975.
Dick served his country on active duty in the United States Air Force for four years as an air traffic controller and later as air traffic ground support. For over 50 years, Dick worked for numerous water and wastewater companies as a Senior Operation & Maintenance Specialist. This included Metcalf and Eddy, the City of Somersworth, NH, and AECOM. His work took him to the Middle East — Egypt and Kuwait — and South America — Brazil and Argentina. He retired from AECOM.
His family thanks the generous staff in the Critical Care Unit of Charlton Memorial Hospital for their care and respect.
