WEBSTER – Beverly A. (Schumann) Makowski, 85, died, Friday, February 6, 2026 in UMass Memorial at Hubbard surrounded by her family.
She leaves her husband of 59 years, John J. Makowski; three children, John H. Makowski and his wife Elaine of Stratford, CT, Amy L. Lashway and her husband Jerry of Southbridge, and Jeffrey F. Makowski and his wife Debra of North Andover; 4 grandchildren, Theo Makowski of Stratford, CT, Megan Battista of Southbridge, and Isabella and Ashleigh Makowski of North Andover; two great grandchildren, Julien and Luis; and a sister, Karen Johnson of Webster.
She was born on March 6, 1940 in Webster, a daughter of Herbert C. and Louise G. (Piehl) Schumann and was a life-long resident. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1958 and then earned her licensed practical nurse certification from the David Hale Fanning Trade School in 1959.
Mrs. Makowski was an LPN in the pediatrics department at Memorial Hospital where she worked for 25 years. After raising her family she was a home health aide for the Samaritan Community Health Service in Webster for many years.
She was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oxford where she taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed being by the ocean, especially at Cape Cod. She was an avid reader and liked solving crossword puzzles. She enjoyed cooking, baking cookies and bread, and knitting. Most of all she enjoyed taking care of children, spending time or talking with her family and friends; and always being a nurse.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, February 12 at 11:00 AM in Zion Lutheran Church, 7 0 Main Street, Oxford. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 Main Street. Family requests that flowers be omitted and instead donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
