Obituary

Marion C. “Connie” (Topor) Nevalsky, 92, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on February 2nd at Christopher House, surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her children, Edward J. Nevalsky and his wife, Angela of Spencer, Cindy A. Perro and her husband, John of Millbury, Mark F. Nevalsky of Worcester, Richard A. Nevalsky and his partner, Joseph of Worcester, Brian D. Nevalsky and his wife Kelly of Sutton, and Michael D. Nevalsky and his lifelong partner, Kristen McGann of Worcester; her sister, Barbara A. Dolcimascolo of Fairport, NY; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Steven M. Nevalsky; her daughter, Sharon M. Cullinane; her brother, Joseph R. Topor; and her former husband and lifelong friend, Edward F. Nevalsky.

Connie was born in Long Beach, California, the daughter of Joseph J. and Mary R. (Balkunas) Topor. She worked for seventeen years as a payroll clerk at the former Norton Company, retiring in 1996. She took great pride in her work and was especially proud of her mastery of the comptometer, a skill she spoke of often. A longtime and devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Connie served as a Eucharistic Minister and was an active member of the Our Lady of Providence Guild and the Norton Caravan Club.

Above all else, Connie was the heart and matriarch of a large and loving family. Known affectionately as “Grammie” to her grandchildren, she had a rare gift for making everyone feel like family, including many friends she welcomed as her own. Grammie was a constant presence in the audience at life’s most important moments—games, sporting events, dance recitals, cheer competitions, birthday parties, graduations, weddings, baptisms, and baby showers. She lovingly babysat and helped raise her grandchildren, guiding them to be kind, patient, and respectful through her own quiet example.

For decades, Connie’s home was the gathering place for cherished Christmas holidays, Easter celebrations, Sunday dinners, and countless family gatherings, bringing together generations around food, laughter, and tradition. Proud of her Polish and Lithuanian heritage, she passed down treasured family recipes, leading the family in making hundreds of homemade pierogies each Christmas, along with beloved dishes such as golumpki and kapusta—traditions that will live on in both memory and practice.

Connie loved to read and deeply valued her lifelong friendships, always making time to reunite with her girlfriends and nurture bonds that spanned decades. She will also be fondly remembered for her beautiful cake decorating skills and the care she put into everything she did for those she loved.

Connie’s life was defined by devotion—to her faith, her family, and the many people whose lives she touched. Her legacy of love, generosity, and togetherness will continue through the generations she helped shape.

Her funeral will be held from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester, on Thursday, February 12th, with a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton Street, Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, February 11th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
