Obituary

Joseph Arthur Aubut, Jr., lifelong resident of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, passed away
peacefully on January 29, 2026 after a prolonged illness. He was 71 years old.
Born on May 11, 1954, in Tewksbury, Joey was the beloved son of the late Rita
Theresa (Nutter) Aubut, and Joseph Arthur Aubut. He was raised in the community he
loved and lived in Tewksbury his entire life, forming deep and lasting connections.
Joseph attended St. William’s School for his primary education and went on to graduate
from Tewksbury Memorial High School, Class of 1972. During his high school years, he
was a proud member of the TMHS football team, wearing jersey #61, and competed as
a heavyweight wrestler on the school’s wrestling team.

Joe followed his father, working in the family business where he dedicated 52 years as
manager and co-owner of Aubut’s Liquors. During those years, Joe also managed
Aubut’s Plaza from 2010 until 2023.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Joe also sponsored and organized the Aubut’s Liquors
softball team, assembling a group of players who proudly wore the team jersey and
brought home several trophies over the years. Joe loved the players as much as the
game and was a familiar and supportive presence at nearly every game.
Joe found joy and adventure outdoors, especially snowmobiling and ice fishing in
Moultonborough, New Hampshire. He was also an avid racquetball player, spending
many early mornings on the courts at Northmeadow Tennis and Racquetball Club.
Summers held a special place in his heart—he cherished his annual stays at The
Ashworth in Hampton Beach and never missed the Seafood Festival.

Along with close friends, Joe helped organize the Luke Byrne Memorial 5K Road Race,
honoring the memory of his dear friend Luke Byrne—another reflection of Joe’s loyalty
and devotion to those he loved.

Joe will be remembered for how deeply he was loved by his family and by everyone
who had the good fortune to know him. He was tenacious and hardworking, with a kind
and generous heart. And, of course, there was the unmistakable hallmark, his uniquely
dry sense of humor and the quiet joy he took in making people laugh.

Joe is survived by his sister, Debra Aubut of Atkinson, New Hampshire, several beloved
cousins, and members of his extended family, including lifelong friends, Al and Katie
Donovan.

The family also wishes to express their gratitude to his caregiver of the last few years,
Amanda Forrest.
