CHICOPEE – Donald O. Champigny, 78, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 29, 2026. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on September 14, 1947, a beloved son of the late Oza L. and Albertine M. (Chouinard) Champigny. He was raised and educated in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield and had lived in Aldenville for the past 50 years. He was employed as a chef at the Arbors in Chicopee and had previously worked at the American Bosch and American Saw. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Christine J. (Atanian) Champigny who was Called Home on November 23, 2024. They were married on September 14, 1994 at Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley and were blessed with over 30 years of happiness together. He leaves his two dear sisters in law, Ann Champigny and Bonnie Atanian; his dear brother in law, Michael Atanian; his cherished nephews and nieces, Roy LaPlante, Diane LaPlante, Kelly Vachon and her husband, Cory, Keri LaPlante, Kirsty LaPlante, Kyle Laplante, Kurt LaPlante and Austin V. LaPlante; and his many dear extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved aunt who was his second mother, Marie Cecile Tetreault; and his three dear brothers, Charles Champigny, Pierre Champigny and his wife, Linda, and Paul Champigny. His relatives will receive friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m. for Donald and his wife Christine at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
