Peabody
Steven J. Cripps, 72, of Peabody, died unexpectedly at the NSMC / Salem Hospital on Tuesday January 27, 2026 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born and raised in Salem he was the son of the late Milton and Lena (Jean) Cripps.
He was a graduate of Salem High School and for many years worked in production for GTE Sylvania in Salem. Following the closing of Sylvania, he was employed in the maintenance department of Salem State College.
Devoted to his family, he was a kind and gentle man who loved sports, traveling, cruising and live music at Capone’s in Peabody. In his younger years, he coached little league and enjoyed spending time at his children’s sporting events.
He is survived by his daughter, Dawn M. Tyler and fiancé Jamie Casey of Plaistow, NH, his son James S. Cripps of Peabody, his brothers, Michael Cripps and wife Laurie of Peabody, Jeffrey Cripps and wife Cheryl of Salem, Wayne Cripps and wife Patricia of South Carolina, his sisters Lisa Levesque and husband Steven of Salem, Leslie Dunton and husband David of Danvers. He also leaves his grandchildren Sam, Spencer, Julianna, Macie & Chase Tyler, and Joshua & Elizabeth Cripps as well as his last surviving aunt Pauline Jean of Salem, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his calling hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. His funeral service in the funeral home will be on Thursday, Feb. 5th at 11:00 A.M. followed by a committal service in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
