Raymond (Moe) L. Brodeur, 75, of Manchester, husband of the late Cindy Warren Brodeur, passed away on January 26th, 2026. Born on October 2nd, 1950, to the late Ernest and Antoinnette (Provencher) Brodeur, he lived his entire life in Manchester, NH.
Raymond grew up surrounded by a large extended family who all lived on the same block. As the youngest of 6 children he spent his early years playing sports in the neighborhood, ice skating wherever he could and fishing with uncles and cousins. It was during these times that he was named “Moe” by the neighborhood kids because it sounded tough and there was already a Raymond. This name stuck for his entire life. He attended St. Anthony’s school through graduation, where he played soccer, hockey and baseball.
Upon graduation in 1968, at 17 years old, he enlisted in the U.S. Army with a close friend under the Buddy Program, allowing them to stay together through Basic Combat Training. Afterwards he was deployed to Vietnam for active combat reaching the rank of Army Specialist E5, Expert Shooter, one rank below Sniper. After serving in intense combat in Vietnam, he was later stationed in Germany where he frequently recounted the exciting adventures he experienced while there. Raymond was a proud Veteran who held his own duty, and the duty of others, in the highest regard. It was a brotherhood that he was honored to be a part of. He enjoyed instantly connecting with other Veteran’s and was a long-time member of the Sweeney Post in Manchester.
Upon his discharge from the Army he returned to Manchester and became a member of the Manchester Fire Department. This was another experience in his life that he enjoyed recounting. It was his favorite job. After his wife was worried sick about him as a fireman he became a U.S. Postal Service Worker for over 30 years, retiring in 2013.
Raymond was an avid sports fan, particularly hockey. He played the sport until the age of 60 attending tournaments all over the east coast and Canada with his U.S. Postal Service Workers team. He loved all New England sports, but the Boston Bruins were his favorite. They caused him much heartache over his lifetime, but he deeply enjoyed their success in the last 15 years.
A devoted father and grandfather, he was referred to as “Captain Safety” for the way he worried about and fiercely protected his grandchildren, finding danger in the most ridiculous situations. He was a loyal father, a man you could trust with anything you shared. Always there without question or judgement, he was ready to help with whatever we needed. He never made you feel bad about anything only offering his unwavering support and kindness.
Raymond was predeceased by his loving and supportive wife, Cindy in 2014, a tremendous loss for him. He leaves behind his son Joseph Brodeur and his wife Valerie of Manchester, NH and their children Claire and Violet Brodeur; his daughter Ashlyn Ellsworth and her husband Rob of Eastford, CT and their children Caileigh, Robert, William, Charles and Corinne Ellsworth; his brother Paul Brodeur and his wife Susan; his sister in law Theresa Brodeur; and his in-laws Steven, Lori, Timothy, Bill and Barbara Warren. He also leaves behind special nieces and nephews. Raymond was predeceased by his siblings Germaine Beaudet, Lucille Dodds, Donald Brodeur and Armand Brodeur.
