Obituary

Shane J. Nieves, 35, died Thursday January 22, 2026 at home in Danielson, Connecticut. Shane was born on January 25, 1990 in Woonsocket and was the son of Juan Nieves and Gail M. St. Germain. Shane lived his early years in the Woonsocket area. He lived in Florida for about 20 years where he graduated from high school. He returned to the Northern Rhode Island area about 7 years ago and recently resided in Danielson, Connecticut.
Shane worked as a laborer for a number of years. He was employed in recent years at the Staples Corporation warehouse and distribution center in Putnam, CT where he was a valued member of the Staples Team.
Shane had a wide variety of interests and pursuits. He was a musician at heart as he sang and played his guitar. He composed his own poetry, no doubt inspired from his love of the outdoors while camping or just taking in the beauty of nature. Shane had a special place in his heart for all animals. He also had an interest in exploring the possibility of alien life and his down time found him actively engaged in playing video games and other fun games.
Shane was proud of his greatest accomplishment in life and that was being a father to his two precious daughter’s Alana and Jazmin. Shane loved them with every fiber of his being…..to the moon and the stars and back!
Spending time with those he loved was the most important thing to Shane.
Shane was many things to many people. He was a son and brother, a nephew and cousin but most of all Shane was a friend to all he met along the road of life. While Shane’s passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of all he loved, his family and friends are determined to keep his memory alive by carrying on his legacy of love and laughter.
In addition to his dad Juan and stepmom Heidi Nieves of Port St. Lucie, FL and mom Gail of North Smithfield and his daughters Alana and Jazmin of Port St. Lucie FL. Shane is survived by his brothers and sisters Kyle Rivera of Smithfield RI, Anthony Nieves, Nicholas Nieves, Juan Gabriel Reyes, Anissa Nieves of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Shawnalee Gonzalez of Woonsocket RI; and several nieces and nephews. Shane is survived by his daughter’s mother Dylcia Morales of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Shane was the grandson of Janice St. Germain of North Smithfield and the late Armand Tremblay and Rosa Garcia of Woonsocket and Juan Burgos Nieves of North Carolina. Shane is also survived by his extended family of many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Everyone is invited to gather to honor and remember Shane’s life at visiting hours on Saturday January 31, 2026 from 1:00-5:00 pm at Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. A prayer service will be held during visiting hours. Shane’s burial will be at a later date..
