Obituary

Herikles Stamatelatos, 85, of Slatersville, RI died Saturday, January 24th in Landmark Hospital, Woonsocket, RI. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Helen (Kokalis) Stamatelatos; his son, Panagiotis “Peter” Stamatelatos; his grandson, Matthew Herikles Stamatelatos; his daughter in law, Diana Stamatelatos; his sister, Sophia Stathoulopoulos of Greece; a nephew, Nick Gianakis; two nieces, Cathy Gianakis Brady and Konstantina Stathoulopoulou Stamatiou; as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family in the US and in Greece. He was predeceased by his son, Argyrios H. Stamatelatos, and his sister, Helen Gianakis.

Herikles was born in Kefalonia, Greece, and immigrated to the United States in 1965, bringing with him a strong work ethic and an enduring love for his homeland. Through dedication and perseverance, he built a life rooted in family, community, and hard work.

A proud and successful businessman, Herikles owned and operated several pizza shops in Worcester, MA and Rhode Island, which he ran for over 50 years, including Hercules Pizza. Work was truly his passion, and he took great pride in serving his customers and building lasting relationships through his businesses. He retired in 2023, leaving behind a legacy of entrepreneurship and commitment that will be long remembered.

A faithful member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Herikles remained deeply connected to his faith and Greek heritage throughout his life.

Herikles cherished traveling back to Greece whenever possible, especially to his beloved Kefalonia, where he enjoyed reconnecting with his roots, culture, and memories. He proudly enjoyed watching his grandson grow up.

A devoted sports fan, he loved watching soccer—especially Panathinaikos — and faithfully followed New England sports teams.

Herikles will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, love of Greece, and passion for the life he built with his family. His legacy lives on in the businesses he created, the community he served, and the many lives he touched.

His visitation is Thursday, January 29th from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
