James W. McGuy, Jr., 90 Dateline: Norton, MA James W. McGuy, Jr., age 90, of Norton, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at the Hope Health Hospice center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Martha A. (Mason) McGuy, to whom he was wed for thirty-five years. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on October 15, 1935, he was a loving son of the late James W., Sr. and Edith (Kay) McGuy. James grew up and was educated in Pawtucket. He proudly served his country, for two years, as a member of the United States Army and was honorably discharged from duty on May 8, 1957 with the rank of Specialist Third Class. He had made his home in Norton for the past thirty-five years and prior to retiring, was the proud owner of the Legend Log Company, a land clearing business that he successfully operated for many years. A faithful Christian, who loved serving the Lord, James was a member of the Candleberry Chapel in Attleboro and had previously served as a missionary worker in both the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Mr. McGuy will always be remembered for the pristine manner in which he maintained his yard and home in Norton and in his retirement years, was affectionately known as “ The Can Man” for his hobby of collecting bottles and cans. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted sons, James W. McGuy, III and his wife Xi of Providence, Rhode Island and Frank McGuy and his wife Carla 0f Greenville, South Carolina. He was the cherished grandfather of Emma McGuy of Connecticut and the great grandfather of Keaton. He was the much-loved stepfather of Susan Manning and her husband Michael of Beverly Hills, Florida and their children, Michael, Melissa and Megan. Services and burial are private and visiting hours are omitted. Those wishing may remember James with a contribution in his memory made to the Candleberry Chapel, 381 South Main Street, Attleboro.
