
EAST BALDWIN- Buster E. “Butch” Nevers, age 76, of East Baldwin, passed away peacefully at his home on Jan. 16, 2026, surrounded by family after a long illness.
He was born in Bridgton, Maine on Feb. 28, 1949, the first born of the late Roswell Nevers and Dorothy Coville of Sweden, Maine.
Butch’s early life was nomadic. He attended many schools, ending in the 8th grade in Buxton.
He joined the Job Corps and then the US Army. He served in Vietnam as an artilleryman. He served in the 82nd Artillery Motor Pool known as the Devil Guns and later with the 173 Airborne.
He met his wife Donna and settled in Raymond where they raised a family. After moving to Baldwin, he met and married Frances “Pappy” and raised yet another family which included two grandchildren he was devoted to. He was a humble, shy, quiet man, who held family and home in the highest regard. He was an extremely hard worker whether he was in the woods, mill, operating heavy equipment or trucking. He did his very best producing excellent quality work.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, tinkering, building things, and any back road driving around preferring a long dirt road.
He is predeceased by a sister- Marie Reed; and a daughter- Dawn Miller.
Butch is survived by his beloved wife- Frances “Pappy” Nevers; children- Darlene Johnson of Parsonsfield, Timothy Brown of Westbrook, Debora Loring of Portland, Karen Brackett of Waterboro, Richard Smith of Baldwin, Nancy Craig of Standish, and December Brown of Brownfield; siblings- Ronald Nevers of Hiram, Kenneth “Reggie” Goyette of VT, Howard Arsenault of KS, Lynn Arsenault of AZ, and Paul Arsenault of CT; numerous grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Butch’s life will be held on Friday Jan. 30th at 1 PM at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish with Pastor Will Kindred officiating. Online condolence messages can be submitted at www.mainefuneral.com
