Obituary

SACO- Jacquin “Jack” Savona, 83, of Saco, Maine, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after acute medical complications related to Parkinson’s disease. He was born on July 12, 1942, to the late Joaquin and Florence (Barling) Savona. After graduating from Cathedral High School, Jack moved from Brooklyn, New York, to Maine to attend Saint Francis College. After college, he met and married the love of his life, Anne Ashenfelter, to whom he was married for 49 years, most of which were spent residing in Kennebunkport, Maine. Jack began his career as a schoolteacher, teaching children of all ages, from nursery school (which he owned with Anne) through high school. He spent most of his years teaching fifth grade at Kennebunkport Consolidated School, where students adored “Mr. Savona” for his engaging style and infamous dad jokes. After retiring from teaching, he worked at local classical radio station WBACH, where he enjoyed building relationships throughout the community. Curious and creative, he pursued many interests over the years, including magic, photography, and woodturning. Jack will be remembered for his devotion to family, his sense of humor and love of laughter, and his rare gift for connection, maintaining friendships that spanned decades. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Anne, who passed away in 2018, and his beloved son, Greg Savona, who passed away in 2022. Jack is lovingly remembered by his daughter Andrea (Savona) Brown and her husband Rick of Kennebunkport and grandchildren Lucas (and wife Madison) and Sydney; daughter-in-law Erika Savona of Freeport and grandsons Ryan and Ethan; sister-in-law Debra Hart and son-in-law Dirck Ashenfelter; nieces Megan, Stephanie, and Katelyn, and nephew Erik, as well as many cherished family and friends too numerous to mention. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held in the spring.
