Giuseppe Sulano of Somerville passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5 th . He was 95. Born in Augusta, Italy he was the cherished son of the late Giuseppe and Rosa (Romeo) Sulano.
As a boy, Giuseppe accompanied his father to Libya for work. Amid the turmoil of World War II, he returned to Italy for safety and had to move several times before being reunited with his family in 1945. In 1956, he immigrated to the United States and settled in Boston’s West End. Trained as a wood worker in Italy, he joined Local 51, where he worked with dedication until his
retirement in 1995. In 1961, he returned to Italy, where he met his future wife, Pina (Vaiasicca). Together, they began their life in East Boston and welcomed their daughters, Roseann, and Lisa, before moving to their forever home in Somerville, where they lovingly raised their family.
Giuseppe was a kind, quiet, and steadfast man whose family was always his highest priority. He was known for his tireless work ethic, both at his job and at home, and for his natural talent as a handyman—able to fix nearly anything and reluctant to discard what might one day be useful. He took great joy tending to his tomato garden, dancing, and ensuring his family was well-fed. A devoted sports fan, he especially loved the New England Patriots and looked forward to watching games with his daughter Lisa. He was a member of the Augusta Boston Club. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Giuseppe was the beloved husband of 31 years to the late Giuseppa “Pina” (Vaiasicca) Sulano. He was the devoted father of Lisa Sulano and her loving companion Salvatore Meli Omodei of Somerville, and the late Roseann Sulano. He was the dear brother of the late Domenica DeGrande and her late husband Charles, the late Lidia Bordonaro and her late husband Antonio, and the late Dominic V. Solano and his surviving former wife Gloria. He was the loving companion of the late Moreen Heath. Giuseppe is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and family members.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with Giuseppe’s family on Monday, January 12th , from 9 to 11 AM in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Clement Church, 60 Warner St, Medford, at 11:30 AM.
