Obituary

James F. "Jimmy" Porter Jr., a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, January 2, 2026 at St. Joseph's Manor Health Care in Brockton. He was 83 years old.

Jimmy was born in Boston on August 19, 1942, a son of the late James F. Porter and Frances B. Connolly. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School System and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1961. Jimmy entered into the United States Air Force on September 28, 1962 and served his country with honor and pride during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on September 27, 1966 with the rank of Airman First Class. Jimmy worked as a security officer for many years. He was a member of the Somerville City Club.

Jimmy is the loving son of the late James F. Porter and Frances B. Connolly. He is the dear brother of the late Lorraine F. Breen and Raymond T. Porter. He is survived by his cousins Linda Flannery and Kathy Szecfkas, and also many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jimmy's visiting hours on Thursday morning, January 8, 2026 from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
