Obituary

STANDISH- Dahill "Dale" Gordon Gryskwicz, age 83, passed away peacefully in the comfort his home on Jan. 1, 2026. Dale was born on Jul. 10, 1942, to parents Stanley and Naomi Gryskewicz in Portland, Maine.

  As a small child Dale had polio in his leg and was confined to a crib with a pet cat until his recovery. 

    Dale attended many different elementary level schools in the Standish area including the one room school house on rt 35A, now Cape Road, elementary school in Standish village that then  became town hall, finishing out elementary level at Geo. E. Jack and continuing on to Standish High School.  

   Dale did many different jobs until he found his spot in propane. He drove tractor trailers for many small companies, did construction off and on with his stepfather, Nelson Carver, and his brother Jerry Gryskwicz. He also built two family homes and rebuilt one. 

    During his 37 years of working in the propane business Dale worked many aspects of the business starting from the bottom doing tank maintenance, home delivery, installation and service, plant manager, and sales. His favorite position was driving the tanker trucks to different plants around Maine to fill the large tanks. He worked at plants in New Jersey, Massachusetts and Maine and ended up managing all at different times. Dale retired in July of 2004 after 20 years with Main Gas.

He built and flew model airplanes. He loved to fly his single engine airplanes, around New England to various small airports for breakfast, lunch, poker runs and other fun events with his family & friends who also were pilots and had their planes. Riding his Harleys and the occasional Honda and lastly his skooter with his friends. He also raced motorcycles. When home on Watchic Lake he liked having cookouts with family and friends and taking the kids out on his various boats.
 
Stock car racing was one of his great loves whether his own that he raced at Wall Stadium in New Jersey with his brother Nelson or occasionally at  Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarboro  and or Oxford Speedway. If he couldn't race his own cars he liked to go to many other racing events around New England and Florida.
 He enjoyed traveling and driving go carts with family friends while on vacation. Spending time with his children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and his family was always a joy. 

Dale is predeceased by his parents and his brother Jerry Gryskwicz. He is survived by his domestic partner Theresa Ben of 39 years, his daughters Debra Caisse of Massachusetts, Tammy O'Brien of North Carolina and Tracy McClure of Indiana, brothers Stanley Gryskwicz, David Gryskwicz and Nelson Carver, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families who will miss him very much.
