Alfred Kuhn, formerly of Norwich and Oakdale, passed away at Pendleton Rehabilitation Center in Mystic, CT on December 16, 2025 . Al was born in Norwich on October 3, 1930 to Elizabeth (Kobasuk) and Alfred Kuhn. He attended Norwich schools, graduating from NFA in 1948, then served in the US Army. Al continued his education at the University of Bridgeport, earning a degree in Accounting. After some years working in that field, he made a career change and joined the faculty at the newly opened Montville High School in 1963. He found the Business Department a perfect fit, while also serving as a class advisor and coaching the track and cross country teams until retiring in 1992. His last official act at MHS was to present a diploma to his graduating son Kevin.
Once retired, Al proceeded to travel, visiting 49 of the United States, innumerable historic sites and cities, ancestral locales, national treasures and many spots that didn’t offer T-shirts or magnetic mementoes. His stateside travels usually included visits to friends and family where his diverse handyman skills were put to good use. Who doesn’t have a deck, shed, floor, some plumbing, or a kitchen that is still covered by a “Tail Light Construction“ guarantee! Al made friends whenever and wherever he visited, and very often unexpectedly reconnected with someone from his past, thus providing us with one of his quirky and entertaining stories. Like finding out you’re sharing a hospital room with the guy who drove you to Fort Dix thirty years earlier.
Al was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and Alfred. Surviving him are his children : daughter Karen Kuhn (Rico Federico) and grand daughter Emilia, of Burlington, MA; son, Kevin Kuhn and grandson Pax of Portland, OR. He also leaves his brother Ed (Adriana) of California; niece, Kathy Kuhn (Doug Smith), their children, Zoe and McKenna; Bob Kuhn and his children , Poppy, Pax, and Piper. Al is also survived by his former wife, Elaine Kuhn of Westerly.
Al will always be in the thoughts of all who knew and loved him. Never forgetting will be his long-time Norwich, Misquamicut, Stratton friends, the Frischmanns (Doris, John and Peter) and the Phil Peters families. Thanks to Phil and John who never ceased to be hopeful and helpful.
Per Al’s request, there will not be a service or visitation.
